FINALLY! A walk through of my van I now call home!
It’s a 2008 Dodge Sprinter 144” Wheel Base Dual Rear Wheel High Roof 3.0 V6 Turbo Diesel with 260k miles.
I started the build around August time frame & got it road ready by February 14th.
I work full time in the military & had to leave town a few times for work so I couldn’t dedicate all of my time on the build.
99% Of the work was done by myself with help from a couple friends randomly & I had a professional do some welding.
I procured a ton of my components from various different sources, using discount codes & getting some items on sale.
All of the tools, hardware, & wood were sourced from my local Home Depot.
Tons of Youtube, trial & error, & long days to get where we are today….not very far 😀
I first thought of my priorities that I wanted in the van.
Started to create a layout of how everything was going to fit with actual dimensions & not just factory numbers.
Figured out what I wanted for my electrical system & did not skimp for cheap components.
Did the same for leisure items like stove, fridge, fans & once again do not regret any of it.
When your van is empty take the time to CLEAN & DO CORROSION PREVENTION.
Don’t forget that there is ample space in the undercarriage for items to be mounted (water tanks, propane, spare tire, extra tool boxes).
Don’t forget that your build doesn’t have to be perfect. It isn’t the absolute build, or your last one. You can always tear it down & change it whenever you’d like. The planning stage is very important to figure out what you’d like but you never really know until you’re living in it.
Do it the right way the first time.
You’ll either take the time to properly learn how to do something or you’ll pay someone to do it, pick.
Think outside of the box.
Measure twice, cut once.
Don’t make dimensions super tight.
Take your saw blade width into account.
Use the right length screws.
This van isn’t the only thing going on in your life so maintain your finances, job, health, &/or significant other.
Counter Sink your subwall/floor
Stop rushing, focus on the task at hand.
Some days are failures & some are great successes, they all take you towards your goal.
Do not set your expectations to those immaculate vans online that’re built by master craftsman, people who have money to hire folks, or people who have a plethora of time. Your build will suit your needs.
